Victorian House, Hertfordshire – Fire Reinstatement

This substantial property suffered extensive damage following a fire at second floor level, along with subsequent water damage. John Clayton provided full design and project management services on behalf of the home owner to make the property safe, watertight and to reinstate it back into its former glory.

Drone photography was employed to obtain detailed aerial images of the damage to help facilitate the design of the complex roof structure.

A carefully planned and detailed strip-out programme meant many of the architectural features of the house could be saved, including decorative cornicing, ceiling roses and elements of the joinery, and those that were damaged were detailed in the specification for replacement.

The project was tendered to three local experienced contractors, and the reinstatement work was completed to a very high standard over a 40-week programme.
