At Clayton Surveying we specialise in helping our clients gain the most from their assets, bringing their plans to life as inspiring structures and helping when circumstances intervene and visions are dashed. Working with insurance companies, loss adjusters and contractors we provide surveying and project management services for commercial and prime residential clients. We believe that everyone, from homeowners to corporate customers, deserve the same premium treatment and our mission is to fulfil the expectations and visions of our clients.

John Clayton

John graduated from Liverpool John Moores University in 2002 with a degree in Building Surveying and joined a leading property consultancy based in the Northwest. John qualified as a Chartered Building Surveyor in 2004 and successfully lead a team of surveyors, mentoring junior staff on their own journeys to professional qualification. He moved back to his home county of Dorset in 2013, joining another large construction consultancy. John specialised in insurance reinstatement and project work and progressed to the role of Associate before leaving in 2021 to fulfil his ambition of launching his own Building Surveying practice.

Simon Hutton


Simon is a highly experienced Chartered Building Surveyor with over 30 years sector experience, having spent the last 24 years with a national consultancy working in their Oxford, Southampton and Winchester offices where he was a Partner managing two teams of Building Surveyors.

Simon has particular expertise in the diagnosis of building defects, insurance sector work, project management, party wall procedures and in the provision of expert witness reports. Simon joined Clayton Surveying as a Consultant in October 2022.
